Herb & Fable: The Wayfarers Quest and Communal Planting Beds

If you played the Willowton Cuthbert & Canny Valley Quest at Fantasy Faire this year (to the end) you’ll have interacted with a Yew tree, contributing water to it along with other players. This was a test prototype of what would become Communal planting beds.

Communal planting beds work in the same way as the tree did, except some players must contribute seeds and not just water. When the bed has had enough seeds and water contributed, the plant will grow, then when it is harvested everyone that contributed something, will receive the grown product.

Obviously since the beds are producing more at harvest, the number of seeds and water are much higher than regular planting beds.

So far Julala has only released Communal versions of the Pumpkin, Plantain, Poppy and Marigold beds, all the other beds will be added in due course.

Below you can see that hovertext on the beds shows how many of each ingredient is still required for the plant to grow.

When a plant has grown and been harvested, you will usually get a message such as:

The object 'HnF_poppy_cobed' has sent you a message from Second Life:
🌿 The communal HnF_poppy_seed_head you helped grow in Bee Leaf has been harvested! Your reward is on its way.

You must then rez your HnF Mailbox from the Welcome Pack and click it to receive your items. If you’ve contributed to multiple beds, you may well have multiple pending items:

This is all very well you may think,  but how do I find all these communal beds to contribute to?

Setting up a Waystone

Central to the Wayfaring quest is the Waystone, each player can have a maximum of 5 Waystones which must be on different land parcels and have at least one communal planting bed.

Click your Waystone to start the process of registering your location in the Wayfaring Directory.

The Landing Point you set doesn’t have to be close to the Waystone, you can rez (hide?) the stone wherever you want then wander off to where you want people to arrive then click the button. So long as it’s within the same land parcel. If you have Teleport routing on your parcel, you may want to adjust it accordingly or turn it off.
